Say 'Ta-ra' to nasty chemicals

I recently received the Straight Away Shampoo and Conditioner from the Tara Smith brand and as soon as I took the little bottles out of the parcel, I was excited. The packaging is very unusual and looks totally different to all the other numerous bottles of product I have sat in my bathroom. I also love the fact that they contain no parabens, phthalates, glycols or synthetic fragrances - just to name a few horrid chemicals. I am always a fan of products without parabens as I have heard that they can play havoc with your hormones. Scary stuff eh?!

Not only are the products nice to your hair, but also the environment, as all the ingredients are natural, organic and 'earth friendly. And when you think things can't get any better, the products are made in the UK!

AND there is no animal testing to be heard of. The products are 'tested on film stars not on animals'.

So if it's good enough for the film stars, it must be good enough for us girls right?

Well, overall, I'm quite impressed. Both the shampoo and the conditioner have a nice lemon-y ginger scent so my hair was left smelling fresh after each use. My hair also felt squeaky clean and it didn't get anymore greasy, any quicker, than usual (a good sign, I guess?). The only problem I have with the product is that as it doesn't contain any sodium laureth sulphate, it really doesn't foam up much, and I love a good foamy shampoo.

But, that would have it be its one and only flaw. I love the packaging, the smell and how earth and hair friendly both the shampoo and conditioner are and I would definitely recommend giving them a go!

They are available for £6.50 each in the 250ml size or £3.75 for the smaller 100ml bottle and you can order them from here.

Butterflies and ruffles

I went out for dinner the other night with a big group of my lovely friends to celebrate my friend, Carl's birthday. I almost impressed myself with my outfit which I conjured up in about 10 minutes as that day was a very busy one! Notes of where everything is from is at the bottom. Let me know what you think girls! Do you approve?

Nude blouse with ruffle detailing - Zara (charity shop find!)
Black vest top - New Look
Black leggings - Primark
Black sequin pumps - Rocket Dog
Retro belt - From my mummy!

You may get a run-down of what went on my face at a later date (if you're lucky!)...

Fruity hair

Not ready for all those bright new spring/summer trends just yet? Why not ease yourself in with the latest addition to the Denman family? The Tutti Frutti Styling brush with a slight orange-y fragrance, perfect for summer. Don't worry, it won't leave you smelling like a can of Tango or clash with your perfume. It's nice and subtle!

My collection of Denman brushes is ever-growing and these 'fruity' brushes really impress me. I've had my 'Wild Dewberry' one for almost a year now the subtle scent is still there. The plastic handle is a good shape and easy to grip and the brush is great for blow drying hair straight. The little cartoon oranges on the back may not be to everyone's taste but I think it makes a nice change to the plain styles brands tend to offer. And it also adds a bit of fun.

When it comes to the classic styling brushes from Denman, I have nothing to complain about. They last a long time, a very reasonable price-wise and most importantly - do a good job!

The Denman Tutti Frutti D3 is also available in Coconut, Green Apple, Strawberry Shortcake, Wild Dewberry or Lemon Sherbet. They are available at around £7.30 from the Denman website and Boots, Superdrug, Sainsbury's and John Lewis.

'Good Things' for spots!

As a teenager, when it's not homework, exams or silly boys(!) I have to deal with, it's spots. I've tried different spot treatments more times than I've had school dinners. Like lots of things, sometimes I find a product that works quite well but unfortunately, most of the time I don't have much success with spot remedies.

This evening, having tweeted about my spot issues, Good Things was pointed out to me by a fellow blogger. The first thing that struck me when I went to the website was the branding - it looks fabulous.

I then noticed that their products are jam-packed full of 'superfruit beauty boosters' which sounds intriguing. There a quite a few products available (separated into 'Gentle Face Care' and 'Anti-blemish Face Care') and the prices look pretty affordable.

I wonder how pretty they would leave my skin though...

I've got my eye on the  'STOP THAT SPOT! Clearing Gel' with Papaya & Acai, as I'm always on the look out for quick fixes for spots. The 'Five Minute Facial Mask' with Avocado & Goji berry was recommended to me and sounds rather scrumptious too.

If you like what you see as much as me (ooh that rhymed!) you can get these superfruit goodies from Boots.

What are your favourite products to fight spots? Have you tried anything from Good Things before?

Monday Madness - Week 7

Anyone for swimming? I remember when I was little and every Wednesday I would head off to swimming lessons. We all had to wear those rubber swimming hats that were always a little too big or a little too, well, little(!) for our heads. I remember standing in the changing rooms with my Mum, armed with talcum powder, ready to squeeze my neon pink rubber swimming hat onto me.

When I saw this on the homepage of ASOS, all the memories came swimming back. Admittedly, mine lacked the cute flowers, but in this 'ASOS PREMIUM Flower Detail Hat', you probably wouldn't look too out of place in a swimming pool full of 8 year olds.

So what do you girls think? Would you fork out £25 for this interesting piece of headgear?

Pastel performance

When it comes to red carpet dresses, bright and bold or simple black or white seem to take the limelight time and time again. A pastel dress is usually a very rare occurence and when one does crop up, I think most of us are left wishing the actress or A-lister had stuck to the norm.

But I think Mila Kunis' flowing lilac number by Elie Saab looks fantastic. Not over accessorised, just perfect.

Hilary Swank, who won my heart in P.S. I Love You, also rocked a pale number. The Gucci dress was rather blingy but I must admit, I love a bit of bling!

I also noticed Hailee Steinfeld (no, I don't know either...) looking cute as a button in a gorgeous light pink 50s style dress by Marchesa.

So these girls are in my good (fashion) books! What do you think of these dresses? Who did you think looked the best at The Academy Awards this year? Have a look at some more A-list outfits from the night here and let me know!

Monday Madness - Week 6

In my opinion, this looks like a fish in a Lacoste shirt. Yes Lacoste, very unconvential. But I wouldn't say 'chic' is the first word that comes to mind for me. But then again, adverts are meant to stick in your head and this one definitely did!

This ad is marginally better but I think it may well be due the rather sexy man....

What do you think? Does this make you want to shop Lacoste?

Getting Naked

No don't worry, not literally! I think most you have already guessed (or you already know if you saw me tweet about it on Twitter) that I am talking about Urban Decay's infamous Naked palette.

I ordered it the other day on the Debenhams website and I am so excited for it to arrive! I don't think I have ever been quite so excited about a beauty product before. Shallow but true. It is currently on sale on the Debenhams website for the discounted price of £28.80, with the 'Good Karma Shadow Brush' included and I am told it comes with a mini UDPP too! I used the code 'PX9P' which gave me an extra 10% off and free delivery so I'd say it's definitely worth popping over to the site if you've been considering buying the palette as I doubt you'd be able to find a better price.

I have heard so many positive reviews on this palette and not a single negative. The pigmentation of the swatches I've seen online look brilliant and Temptalia gave it an A+, so Urban Decay must have made something good! Keep your eyes peeled for a review and hopefully plenty of new makeup looks!

Dry winter lips, buzz off!

Enriching, hydrating and nourishing; the three words Burt's Bees use to describe their Mango Butter Lip Balm. And, after using this for a good few weeks, I would have to agree. No flashy ingredients or extravagant claims, just a rather yummy lip balm!

Excuse the Boots image - camera is dead as a dodo!

It is 100% natural, so no parabens or the like, and has a subtle mango scent which is strong enough to smell but not too overpowering. When I first used the balm, I noticed that, although soft, it is quite thin and I usually go for thicker, stickier balms (which my mum complains about when she borrows them!). But surprisingly, the balm lasted a good 40 minutes without budging and even then, my lips didn't feel bare. I'm sure you could go a couple of hours without reapplying but I'm a bit obsessive and like to reapply lip products quite regularly!

So, I'm impressed. I love the mango scent, whilst the soft texture makes for a rather nice application. It stayed on for a reasonable amount of time, and at £3.59 in Boots, it isn't too expensive for a Burt's Bees product.

Talking of Burt's Bees, when I was on the Boots website in search of the price, I also spotted their
Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. Looks interesting and I fear I may soon be tempted....

Do you own this lip balm or any other Burt's products? Which are your favourites?

(I was sent the lip balm but this has in no way affected this blog post. It has been written in complete honesty!)

Bag a bargain

If you like designer handbags and purses, or just a good online sale, it might be worth heading over to Brand Alley when you get a chance as they've currently got up to 90% off their high-end handbags, purses and key chains. On offer they have Chloé, Marc Jacobs and Dior - just to name a few!

I love this 'Khaki Green Leather Bowling Bag' by Céline but unfortunately, despite the discounts, they are a rather out of my price range... But do not be disheartened. There are some big discounts and it's worth just having a quick browse as the bags are so gorgeous!
