Prom Prep: Introduction

If you don't already know, after my constant complaining about exams on Twitter, I am in my last year of school. For the next 2 months, it will be solid revision and exams for me - oh, and quite a lot of prom preparation! As any of you who have had a prom will know, there is quite a lot to consider! And as most of this revolves around fashion and beauty, I thought, why not let you girls in on the action?!

I have my dress (Coast at House of Fraser). Remember my 'Purple for Prom?' post? Well, I ended up going for purple in the end. Just not the same dress!

Now I just need to work my way through this list:

Base/Primer
Foundation
Powder
Blush/Bronzer
Mascara/False Lashes
Eyeshadow/Eyeliner
Nails
Tan
Hair
Jewellery
Bag/Purse
Shoes

Easy right? I think not. I'll be doing a post on each of the above where I'll peruse and review a load of different products. You'll get an idea of how I'm getting on with my prom preparation and hopefully it will give any of you girls off to a prom or summer wedding, a bit of help with your preparation. And even if you've not got a big event to prepare for, I'm sure most of you fashionistas and makeup addicts will find something you like!

I met Russell Brand!

Well, at Madame Tussauds....

Posing with my hubby. All that stuff about him and Katy? Rubbish.

Cute Easter bunnies

Happy Easter! I was browsing the Miss Selfridge website the other day and found these cuties!

Image sourced from missselfridge.com

If the sun hasn't got you in the Easter/Spring mood, these sweet little rhinestone studs from Miss Selfridge should. And at £10.00, they might be more expensive than an Easter egg, but you won't regret them 10 minutes later and you can keep them forever!

Do you have any festive earrings?

Push PR Press Day (Part 2)

To read Part 1 click here.

I loved this sheer pussybow blouse from Dressrail.com. Their affordable prices mean you can add on-trend pieces to your wardrobe without adding to your overdraft! I was told by the lovely Hannah that all their items are under £25 and I also found out that new lines are added everyday.

If you're on a larger budget, I'd definitely recommend having a good look at the econe jewellery range. Their pieces are gorgeous and I've heard that they featured some new up-and-coming designers in their latest collection.

Econe also had some great neon brights by Nicholas King.

And these chunky statement cuffs.

And this fabulously quirky pom-pom felt necklace by Akong London.

The lovely Julia from Upper Street was there with a million and one pairs of shoes (slight exaggeration!) and a little Macbook and I had a stab at designing a pair of heels for my prom. There are so many fun colours, styles and textures to choose from and Julia told me that soon you'll be able to design cute flats on the site too - perfect for summer!

And finally, the family business, Tusting. They produce gorgeous leather bags in every colour and style possible. Satchels, shoppers, purses. You name it, they probably make it! The latest addition to the family are theirs stylish holdalls, washbags, iPhone and iPad holders in bright orange (nod to the acid brights/block colour trend maybe?) and sky blue. I have the leather orange washbag and I love it! But more on that another day!

So, all in all, a lovely morning spent eating olives, chatting with the fab Push PR girls and eyeing all the gorgeous goods!

Push PR Press Day (Part 1)

Last week, I attended the Push PR Press Day at the gorgeous Soho Hotel - the hotel is hidden away about 10 minutes from Oxford Street and you wouldn't even know it was a hotel, just walking past, but inside it is amazing!

The wonderful Push PR girls managed to squeeze Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter collections from all their clients in the 2 rooms Push had taken over for the day. Everything was arranged beautifully and all their snacks were in LSA glassware (one of their clients of course!).

I expected all the clients to be fashion and clothing brands but LSA's products are so sleek that I can see why they fitted in so well with all the fashion stands around them. As soon as I saw them, 2 of my favourite things came to mind - food and fashion. First, I thought of course sweets and cakes and the like would look lovely in the different handmade jars, but I had another idea. I think the bonbon jar would be great for storing vintage silk scarves or you could sit a few of the condiment dishes on your dressing table and pop some cute rings in them. LSA glassware is available from John Lewis and House of Fraser.

One great brand which caught my eye was 18 AND EAST which launched only last year. They offer sweet vintage-inspired tops and dresses as well as more edgy piece for evenings perhaps. You can look at their S/S collection on their new site.

Another clothing line there was that of non other than Jasper Garvida. He won Project Catwalk back in 2008 and if you remember the pieces he created on the show, I can tell you that this colection is just as impressive. Eye-catching, expensive and elegant. Drool over his beautiful dresses here.

There was also a rail of gorgeous bright Gigi Vintage clothes and some vintage designer sunglasses! I'm a big fan of Gigi and you can read my blog post about them here.

For more on the Push PR Press Day and the companies featured, pop back over soon for Part 2!

Gaga for Gigi and 10% off

Gigi Vintage is a relatively new brand to me and I only recently had a proper good look on their site. I am very glad I did as they have some great one-off vintage pieces which I'm sure a lot of you girls would love too. So, I thought I'd take the time to show you a few of my favourites!

I'm not always a fan of vintage bags but this 1980s carpet tapestry one by Diane Von Furstenberg caught my eye. It is quite big, with lots of zipped compartments and 'DVF' is embossed or stamped onto a metal plaque on the front, the faux leather luggage tag and the two zippers. 'DVF' is also printed all over the inside lining in green and the bag is currently in the sale for £105

I also love this cute lace collar floral dress (£35). The puff sleeves, floral print and lace are really cute and girly and the short skirt means it is great for summer. But you could also add some wooly ribbed tights and some brogues (as Gigi recommend!) on a colder day.

Talking of colder days, this Norwegian cardigan is great and is also in the sale for £38! It has a nice balance of colour and the pattern is interesting but not OTT. I also love the bowler hat. I wonder if that's for sale....

And finally, possibly my favourite. This statement leopard print jumpsuit. The cinched in waist is very flattering and this would be great if you wanted to dress up for the night without revealing a lot of skin. And remember girls, jumpsuits are back this season!

If you like what you see, you can get to their website by clicking the links above or go to their homepage here. And now for the best bit. Gigi Vintage are treating you lovely people to 10% off everything on their site. Simply enter FASHIONFREAK11 at the checkout on the site before 9th May so get ordering before your favourite items go!

Possibly the best eye brush you will ever find!

I sat trying to think of a snappier title for this blog post but I really couldn't think of a better way of putting it! Although I am a self-confessed fashion freak, I'm sure most of you have realised by now that there is an incredibly large place in my heart for all things beauty.

There are so many cosmetics brushes which catch my eye but unfortunately they tend to be from rather expensive brands like Mac, Bobbi Brown and the like or are from international companies meaning the shipping costs an arm and leg. So when I find good quality brushes with a not-too-shocking price tag, I am always very happy.

And this brush from H&M is definitely one of those brushes.

It is incredibly soft and fluffy (perfect for blending) and has a perfectly rounded shape - so no blunt edges on your poor little eyelids! It have a nice long handle too so your hand won't get in the way while you're applying your shadows. And the best bit.... it's only £1.99! I'm scared that they're going to go out of stock so I have about 4!!

So, if you buy anything this week, I'd make it one (or two) or these fabulous brushes.

NOTD: Barry M Buzz

I'm sure you have heard of this nail polish. It's the dark pink Barry M polish which came free with Buzz magazine in The Sun a few months ago. The little package worth £9 came with this polish, a black kohl eyeliner and a barbie pink lip gloss and although the eyeliner and gloss were good, the polish really impressed me! I've worn it on many occasions since I got my hands on it but have never posted a photo. So this time, I thought I would.

Did you get your hands on a little BarryM/Buzz set? Which was your favourite product?

Happy Mother's Day!

I don't think my mum has ever had a mention on my blog so, on Mother's day, what better time to do so?
Shazza (her name's Sharon but that's my little nickname for her!) supports me in everything I do, whether it's school, my blog, big decisions - anything. Like all mothers and daughters, we have our rows and disagreements but that's probably because (though I hate to say it) we're so bloomin' similar!

I hope you and your mums have lovely memories and have a lovely day today.

A photo from when I was little and my mum's hair and glasses were definitely far from little!
